|The Ace formation has a single back lined up directly behind the quarterback. Generally, there is a tight end and three receivers, however, this can be modified to 2 receivers/ 2 tight ends or 4 wideouts and no tight ends. The ace formation is more of a passing formation, but it also spreads out the defense horizontally to create lanes for the running game.|
West coast offenses often use the ace formation and run slants, hitches and other short passes to move the ball up the field.
