Football Playbook: I Formation
|The I formation consists of a fullback and tailback lined up in a line behind the quarterback. The fullback generally starts 3-4 yards behind the quarterback in a 3 point stance, and tailback is 2-3 yards behind the fullback in an athletic stance with his hands on this thighs.|
The most common plays out of this formation are running plays up the middle. It is a power formation that allows the fullback to lead the way through the line and make room for the tailback carrying the ball.
However, deep play action passes can be successful from this formation, as the defense will generally be looking for a running play.
