Peach Bowl: LSU vs. Miami
Atlanta, GA - December 30, 2005

The Peach Bowl this year will feature two top ten teams for the first time ever. These BCS caliber teams suffered late season upsets which kept them out of a New Year's Bowl, but leaves us with a great late December matchup between top teams. You could argue that this will be one of the top 3 bowls of the whole bowl season, based on the team's rankings.

Miami Offense vs. LSU Defense
Miami will turn to their two stars on offense with the last name of Moss. Tyrone and Sinorice's play will go a long way in determining the outcome of this game. Tyrone leads the team with 719 rushing yards, and an impressive 5.2 yards per carry. Sinorice leads the receiving corps with 604 yards and 6 touchdowns.

Miami will try to set the tone of the game by using it's ground game and short passing game. This will bring the LSU linebackers up toward the line of scrimmage and allow Wright to have time to find the open man down the field.

Below, LSU will bring an eighth man down into the box to try to stop the run. Miami executes a play-action pass to perfection. The tight end releases down the center of the field, which brings the safety up a few steps, and allows Sinorice Moss to beat the single coverage and get the touchdown.

Big plays like this are a big part of the Miami offense and will have to be executed to perfection for Miami to win the Peach Bowl.

LSU Defense vs. Miami Offense
The LSU defense is very athletic and finished the season 4th in total defense and 8th in scoring defense nationally. They are an attacking defense that will commit themselves to stopping the run, and leave their cornerbacks matched up man-to-man against the Miami receivers. Big plays have hurt the Tigers at times this season, so limiting those big plays will be important to their success.

Below, Miami is attempting a cut-back running play to try to take advantage of a very aggressive defense in hopes that they will over pursue the play and leave a running lane for Moss. While the defensive line and linebackers do flow to the play side, the strong safety cheats down into the box and is there to make the play. It is this commitment to stopping the run, combined with their corner's ability to cover the receivers that will allow LSU to stop this good Hurricane offense.

LSU Offense vs. Miami Defense
JaMarcus Russell suffered a shoulder injury in the Conference Championship game, and is questionable for the Peach Bowl at this time. If he is able to play the matchup between the LSU offense and the Hurricane defense will be an exciting one to watch.

Russell has a very strong arm and has the ability to make throws that many other college quarterbacks are unable to make.

Below, LSU is going to line up 2 receivers to the left side of the formation. The outside receiver runs a short route, while the inside receiver runs a deep out route. Miami drops their 2 safeties deep into coverage, while the corners and linebackers are responsible for the short zones. The inside receiver breaks to the sidelines and Russell threads the ball between the safety and corner to make the completion. If Russell is unable to go, it could limit what LSU is comfortable in doing with their offense, which will not bode well for them against this tough Miami defense.

Miami Defense vs. LSU Offense
We discussed the national ranks of the LSU defense earlier in the article, but Miami even beats those numbers. Miami ranks number 1 in scoring defense, allowing just under 12 points a game, and second in total defense.

Much of the Hurricane's success on defense comes from their quickness and ability to swarm to the play and execute good solid tackles. Below, the Tigers are going to run their receivers deep down the field, which is going to force the secondary deep into coverage. LSU checks down and throws the ball out to talented running back Addai, who is isolated on a linebacker. Most of the time, this matchup favors the running back, but in this case, the Miami linebacker gets to the play so quickly that Addai is unable to make a move before being tackled. If Miami's dominating defense can play solidly as it has all season, it should be able to slow down the LSU attack and give them a good chance to win.

Final Analysis and Prediction
I expect this game to be a low scoring affair in which one of the offenses will either make a big play or big mistake which turns the tide of the game. My prediction is that Miami makes the big play and LSU makes the big mistake.

Prediction
Miami 17
LSU 7
